A charismatic figure of the 19th century, José Joaquim de Sousa Reis, immortalized under the nickname Remexido, was a cornerstone of the Miguelista revolution in the southern regions of Portugal. Dedicated to social and community causes in the Algarve, he soon became involved in political matters. A rebellious and unsubdued fighter, he committed to the absolutist cause of Miguel I as a general in the guerrilla warfare that bravely opposed the liberals. He’d end up captured by the liberal army in 1838, tried and sentenced to death. A cunning and intelligent man, he was always proud of his political beliefs, and he fought for them until the end. The Remexido wine pays tribute to this legendary figure of the people of the Algarve.
Refrigeration of the grapes, cold pellicular maceration, followed by pressing and decanting of the must. Fermentation in Hungarian oak barrels. Ageing for a year on the lees and batonnage stirring.
